SEMrush vs Moz: Search engine optimization (SEO), one of the best ways to get people to read the content you’ve worked hard on, is getting harder and harder to do. Search engines and social media sites are always making changes to their algorithms.
This means that search engine optimizers (SEOs) must always improve how they write and share their content. The basket of SEO tools is full of resources, which is a good thing. The problem is that they all say they offer the best SEO services. Even though most of them have different features, they are not the same.
SEMrush was started in 2008 as a simple tool for analyzing keywords. Since then, it has grown into a full-featured SEO tool with all the bells and whistles, but it still focuses on increasing online visibility and optimizing search engine rank. Many SEO experts and professionals think that SEMrush gives you the most for your money. SEMrush has many features, such as improving your search engine rank, researching competitive keywords, analyzing data about your competitors, and many more.
Price: Over the last few years, the price of the SEMrush PRO plan has steadily gone up. Once thought of as a cheap SEO solution compared to Moz, it now has the same price as Moz. SEMrush costs $99.95 per month, just for one user. If your business is small and you only have a small team of people, this can be a bit pricey. Even if you are a one-person or one-woman show, $99.95 might be a lot to swallow.
There is a free version, but it only lets you see a certain number of results in the reports. After trying it out, serious users will want to pay for a better version. As we said above, you can subscribe to SEMrush PRO for $99.95 per month. Up to $400 per month can be paid for the Business plan.
Many old-school SEOs, including myself, still call this tool “SEOMoz,” but it’s now just called “Moz.” This tool started in 2004 as an online community and blog where SEOs could talk shop. Since then, it has matured into the most powerful SEO tool available.
Moz put out the Beginner’s Guide to SEO, which was the “bible” of SEO when it was just starting. They also put out their first “Search Ranking Factors” study, which is still an important SEO resource today. Today, Moz is a full-fledged SEO system that offers search engine keyword rankings, keyword research, links, site crawling services, page optimization, etc.
SEO community: Moz started as a blog and online community where SEOs could talk about their jobs. It still makes a lot of great content for SEOs and people who run content marketing campaigns. Even if you don’t use their tool, the Moz blog has a lot of great information that will help you with your content marketing.
Available features: Moz has crawled more than 250,000 pages, which gives it an advantage over SEMrush when it comes to competitor SEO research for crawled data (meta information mostly). So, the site crawling features of Moz are hard to beat. Moz also has tools for keyword research, link control, rank tracking, or even content management and crawling sites.
Training: Moz does offer several tools, resources, and courses for training. Moz automatically enrolls all new users in an online training program that uses scheduled emails to teach you how to use all of Moz’s features. Moz also offers online courses, tips, and tricks that you can take whenever you want. They also offer live, in-person, and enterprise-wide training, a great way to train teams.
Features: Moz only tracks two sites and 300 keywords, while SEMrush can track up to five sites and 500 keywords. Moz does have some important features, but its domain authority and backlinks features have become less useful over time. Also, while the tool does have some great features, it isn’t being updated as quickly as SEMrush and isn’t getting new features.
Support is available: Their live chat agents are quick and well-trained, but if you’re trying to run an SEO report that you need to show to your boss or company board later in the day and it’s not working, you may want to be able to pick up the phone and talk to someone.
User-friendliness: Moz isn’t always the easiest SEO optimization tool to use compared to some others. It can bring a long time to detect certain features, figure out how to read reports and sort through data. All of SEMrush’s features are accessible through a single, easy-to-use menu, but with Moz, I’ve had to do a Google search to find a feature I knew was there but couldn’t find. Moz is also at a big disadvantage because they don’t have a mobile app that works on more than one device.
Moz’s basic plan starts at $99 per month, just like SEMrush. Upgrades get more expensive, with their most prestigious plan costing as much as $599 per month.
In the end, it’s important to think about what features you need and how much money you have. Each business has its own needs and wants, so it makes sense that they will use features in different ways. Even though we gave you a quick overview and review, you may find that the “winner” is not the best choice for your business.
